I sat this morning, with twinkling lights, a cat on my lap and a cup of my favourite tea. Up by 6am I was happy to sit and welcome a new day and a New Year in simply and quietly. We had a peaceful Hogmanay, still flattened by the cough and cold we have been sharing, we were tucked up in bed by 9.45, happy to be cosy with a good book, a wee sniff of whiskey and chatting about nonsense as we do. A change indeed from a couple of decades ago where my twenty year old self would have scoffed at our non-celebratory page turn into 2014.
My Great Grandfather made this ship, The Victory and it sits next to my place in our living room. This morning I found myself pondering my journey and the winds that set my course this way and that. Deep thoughts indeed but I am hopeful for what this coming year may bring.
As always I will try to take each day one at a time, whilst still keeping an eye on the bigger picture. No New Years Resolutions here, but I am choosing a word in the hope that it will guide me somewhat. There are areas of my life that I wish to take more notice of. My creativity, my relationships, my health. So the word Nurture is my focus for this year. A small and simple word which I hope will bring about a gradual shift in my attention.
I found this poem which reflects my thoughts for the coming year.
“May Light always surround you;
Hope kindle and rebound you.
May your Hurts turn to Healing;
Your Heart embrace Feeling.
May Wounds become Wisdom;
Every Kindness a Prism.
May Laughter infect you;
Your Passion resurrect you.
May Goodness inspire
your Deepest Desires.
Through all that you Reach For,
May your arms Never Tire.”
I hope your soul feels replenished for this New Year. Thank you for visiting and reading and I look forward to sharing more with you in the coming months.

If I’d had my way I wouldn’t have been far behind in heading for my bed but my youngest daughter (6yr old) wanted to see the fireworks on TV… she made it to 11.30pm bless her and didn’t even remember being carried up to bed.
Nurture is a good word I think. Mine is organisation. I’m hoping that staying organised in my time, my space, my internet usage will afford me more creative time.
Happy New Year Gillian 🙂 Hope that cough clears up for you soon.
